Barbara McClintock

She studied corn for many years, and shared the jumping-gene idea in the 1950s.

Barbara McClintock studied the colors of corn kernels.

She figured out that some bits of DNA can jump to a new place.

Later tests in other living things showed she was right.

She learned it by looking closely, season after season.
